  • Riot police secure a scene of a bus blast in Giza

A roadside blast has killed four people - three Vietnamese tourists and a local tour guide - and injured 12 others on a bus near the Giza pyramids in Egypt, officials say.

Egyptian tour guides hold a candlelight vigil at the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza in solidarity with victims of attacks in Paris and Beirut and the Russian plane crash in northern Sinai, on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt, Nov. 15, 2015.

A bomb hidden beside a wall went off as the bus carrying 14 Vietnamese tourists was passing, it adds.

At least 10 other Vietnamese tourists, as well as an Egyptian bus driver, were also hurt in the blast, the interior ministry said.

CNN's Hossam Ahmed reported from Cairo and Mohammed Tawfeeq reported and wrote from Atlanta.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the bus had "deviated" from a route secured by security services.

Egypt has attempted in recent to lure tourists back to the country, with some success.

"It was awful - people screaming", she said. However, this is the first attack to target foreign tourists in nearly two years.

It said that 10 were seriously injured.

According to the official state news agency MENA, security forces killed the suspected fighters in raids in Giza and northern Sinai - a volatile desert region that has been a hotbed for various armed groups.

Last year, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi declared a countrywide state of emergency after two church bombings killed dozens of people in two cities. "We will continue to move towards a new year of determination to root out terrorism", he wrote.
