  • First transgender contestant competes in Miss Universe

This was the sentiment of netizens as Miss Universe gave a tribute to Spain's first transgender hopeful, Angela Ponce during its ceremony on Monday, December 17 (Manila time) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Miss Universe, formerly owned by President Trump, didn't allow transgender competitors until recently.

Ponce, the first transgender woman to compete in Miss Universe, was emotional in the video highlight that was shown during the finale.

"Praying for good weather, world peace and for Catriona to win Miss Universe!" she wrote.

She also walked down the runway.

"If that contestant can go through the casting process, become a candidate, and earn the right to represent her country, then why not? But I just wanted to let you guys know what I'm doing.going really fast".

"Congratulations Philippines!" she said in another Instagram Story.

When asked on The Morning Show today if she had considered whether the controversy would impact on her chances of winning, Hung admitted that she had thought about it. And she has a objective.

"She didn't just wake up one day and was like, 'I feel like being a woman!' She feels it in herself".

Miss Spain even caught the attention of America's favorite trans woman, Laverne Cox, who tweeted her praise.

Despite the injury, Ashley continued to co-host Miss Universe until the end when she got to congratulate this year's victor, Miss Philippines, Catriona Gray.
