"Or a wannabe dictator's butt-boy?"

Brzezinski later apologized on Twitter.

President Trump on Thursday lashed out at "Morning Joe" co-host and longtime critic Mika Brezinski after she called Secretary of State Mike Pompeo a "butt boy" for defending the Saudi crown prince accused of having a journalist killed. To this point, Kilmeade asked Pompeo "we know the prince knows, right?" Photographer G.E. Anderson wrote to the journalist on Twitter, condemning her for using "as homophobic a term as I've heard on national morning television".

She said it sounded like Pompeo was carrying water for a "wanna-be dictator", using a cruder term. "I should have said "water boy"... like for football teams or something like that.", she wrote, also addressing her apologies to Senator Dick Durbin, who was on air during the segment.

"Trump added on Twitter, ".She will probably be given a pass, despite their bad ratings.

"SUPER BAD choice of words".

Richard Grenell, the USA ambassador to Germany who Trump praised for "having the courage to take this disgusting issue on", called Brzezinski's comment "outrageous. totally unacceptable & deeply disturbing".

President Donald Trump called out Brzezinski on Twitter saying that there would have been a harsher reaction if a conservative had made the same comment. "Sexualizing gay people this way is created to control them & minimize our worth", Grenell said, while also adding that he didn't think much of Brzezinski's walk-back.

Anderson provided a list of alternative words Brzezinski might have used to describe Pompeo's conduct towards Saudi Arabia.

Even Donald Trump Jr. swooped in - not to champion gay rights, but to make a comparison to comedian Kevin Hart, who was forced out as Oscars host after some old homophobic tweets resurfaced. "I think this is what the president said yesterday".

Brzezinski immediately went on to issue an apology for the remarks.

David Hogg would be calling for boycotts and firings.

"I'm dead serious", she persisted. "This is a problem we have in all of media".

It's not the first time Trump has taken shots directly at Brzezinski.
