The O2 mobile network has suffered a major outage this morning, with the company's data network going down globally, although O2 subscribers could still make calls.
While the expired certificate was present in software used by O2 and its parent Telefonica, the outage also rolled downstream to the likes of GiffGaff, Sky Mobile, TalkTalk, Lyca, and Tesco Mobile, who rely on O2's network for their services. Unfortunately, things snowballed from there, and now millions of O2 customers throughout the United Kingdom have little-to-no mobile data at all, via the BBC.
The outage kicked off around 4.45am this morning, with services that rely on O2's network also suffering as a effect. In Japan, the firm suggests 3G networks kicked in to partly compensate for the 4G issues, though the same could not be said for the UK.
