  • Wilder, Fury draw in epic heavyweight showdown

Thank God Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder signed a rematch clause before the fight because yesterday's heavyweight championship bout ending in a draw left Boxing fans wanting more.

Three years ago, Fury (27-0-1, 19 KO's), 30, was a three-belt unified world titleholder after he shocked the world with a lopsided unanimous decision over Wladimir Klitschko, but the celebration was short-lived, as his entire world came crashing down on him.

According to the Mirror, he said: "I'm going to give it to the poor and I'm going to build homes for the homeless".

After just two comeback bouts the announcement that he would fight for the world title did surprise most and the Gypsy King was always going to be the underdog going into the opening bell.

Despite his view of the decision he indicated that a rematch could well be in Las Vegas rather a football ground in England by saying: 'I would have no problem coming back here. The Englishman made Wilder miss constantly, particularly ducking under Wilder's big right hand with grace.

"This Wilder-Fury judging takes me back to my first fight with Evander Holyfield", he said on Twitter.

He was floored in the ninth and final rounds - meaning they were scored 10-8 in Wilder's favour. "I believe all kids should make their own money in life because if they don't, they won't appreciate it", Fury said.

Somehow, someway he managed to rise at the exact moment all hope was lost in a moment that properly encapsulated the personal journey that led Fury to the fight. Fury may have taken the eighth with a combination that ended in two strong rights that stunned Wilder, but the champion landed a combination of overhands in the ninth that dropped the challenger, with Fury getting up at the count of nine.

For a couple of seconds in round 12, it seemed that Wilder destroyed Fury with a couple of brutal punches, sending him crushing onto the canvas. The buildup was the buildup, and we had a great buildup.

But like o'l Adonis Creed, Fury had no quit in him.

Until Wilder's sensational final round knockdown, Fury appeared to be heading for what would have been a remarkable upset.

Fury also showed a salient level of class for not blaming the judges despite a decision that very could have (and likely deserved to) have gone his way.

Wilder, the more aggressive of the two fighters early on, quickly moved into the lead after the opening rounds. "I got drenched actually", Fury said.

"I hope I did you all proud after almost three years out of the ring", Fury continued.

At the end of the third Wilder's eye had been swollen after decent shots from the former WBA champion, including one right at the end of the round.
