China’s Huawei Wishes New Year Using iPhone, Gets Twitter Talking

On New Year's Eve, two employees accidentally posted a new year's greeting on Huawei's official Twitter account using an iPhone.
However, Twitter displays which devices have been used to send a tweet - something many companies and celebrities with brand deals fall foul to - and seeing as Apple is a major Huawei competitor, this was allegedly seen as harmful to the Huawei brand. As a punishment for the blunder the company had demoted the employees by one rank and has also reduced the monthly salaries by $700 (5,000 yuan).
Huawei manufactures the P-series handset that is a rival of Apple's iPhones.
The blunder was first spotted by popular YouTuber Marques Brownless (also known as MKBHD).
Twitter, like several foreign services such as those from Facebook and Alphabet, is blocked in China, where the Internet is heavily censored. Huawei's tweet publicly displayed "Twitter from iPhone" below the message thanks to this recent Twitter change. Huawei said in its memo that "the incident exposed flaws in our processes and management", and that it will be looking to address that soon.
According to an internal memo seen by Reuters and Bloomberg, Huawei blamed a supplier it hired to handle its social-media operations overseas. "Apparently, some sort of 'VPN problems" with a computer forced the employees to use an iPhone with a roaming SIM card to send the message out at midnight.
In an internal Huawei memo dated January 3 seen by Reuters, corporate senior vice-president and director of the board Chen Lifang said, "the incident caused damage to the Huawei brand". That, of course, rubbed Huawei the wrong way, and it has taken action against the employees responsible. The replies to the reposted tweet filled with users posting their screenshots of the "Twitter from iPhone" version.
It is not the first time use of the Apple product has given cause for embarrassment.
The "Twitter from iPhone" labelling was roundly mocked on social media. They especially don't tolerate any sort of mistakes internally.
