  • Jayme Closs 13 managed to escape a remote cabin where she had been held against her will after her parents were killed

Thousands of volunteers and hundreds of law enforcement officers had been searching around the clock for her after her parents were found shot dead in their home, the front door open and the girl gone.

There was no sign of Jayme until she was found "skinny and dirty" on Thursday by a dog walker in a town 65 miles away from her home.

Additionally, authorities "don't believe there was a social media connection" between Closs and Patterson and are working to figure out "how he became aware of Jayme", Fitzgerald said. He was jailed on suspicion of kidnapping and homicide.

Finding Jayme alive has brought up a lot of emotions for kidnapping victims and families of missing children.

"All I know is that she was able to get out of that house and get help and the people recognized her as Jayme Closs right away", Fitzgerald said.

Jayme will soon be reunited with her family, officials said during a news conference on Friday.

The sheriff said Patterson had been keeping Jayme against her will at his home.

Police always said they believed Jayme was still alive.

With Jayme, the nation knows her, her captor and will learn of any charges. [But] he knew what he was doing. "We are just thrilled that she is back", Seelig said. "We see her picture everywhere and we have bracelets that we buy", said the woman at the cafe.

Beers and Smart said they are proof that trauma survivors can go on to live happy and fulfilling lives.

Jake Thomas Patterson is being held on kidnapping and homicide charges after his arrest Thursday. The discovery ended an all-out search that gripped Wisconsin, with many people fearing the worst the longer she was missing.

Jeanne Nutter was walking her dog near the cabin she owns with her husband on 10 January when she encountered Jayme Closs coming out of nearby woods.

"And I would tell her that this experience might feel like it's defining, it might feel like that's who she is now, but it doesn't have to be", Smart said.

Jayme's cousin, Angela De Andriano, is managing the gofundme account Jayme is Home - Help Heal her Heart.

Smart called Closs courageous, strong, and a powerful survivor - but also says there is a long road ahead.

Jayme's aunt, Sue Allard, told the Star Tribune: "It's the news we've been waiting on for three months".

Kasinskas said. Police were called - but before they arrived, Jayme told them that she'd been held in the Gordon area, near Kasinskas' home, by someone who killed her parents on the night she disappeared. "She did not talk about why or how". She said she didn't really remember anything about him except that he was quiet.

"Jayme is safe!" Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said.

While the young man worked at the same meat processing plant as Jayme's parents almost three years ago, he did so for only one day and police said there is no evidence that there was any contact between them.

"I think hope helps you get through the day.it makes it easier", Simmers said.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald gave an update Saturday, calling the case still "very active".

Asked if there would be a community celebration in her honor, the superintendent of the Barron Area School District that Jayme attended, said, "You better believe it".

"The suspect had specific intentions to kidnap Jayme and went to great lengths to prepare to take her", the sheriff said, such as shaving his head to avoid leaving traces of identifying evidence behind.
