Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will likely miss one more week at the United States Supreme Court as she continues to recover at her home from lung surgery late past year, reports Fox News. She has been reading legal briefs and participating in cases by relaying her votes to the other justices...

Ginsburg, 85, missed - for the first time ever - her first day of oral arguments at the Supreme Court on Monday after more than 25 years on the bench.

Outside of Ginsburg's advanced age, adding to the speculation is her recent fall in November and the surgery she underwent last month to remove cancerous tumors from her lungs. On Friday afternoon, Washington Post reporter Robert Barnes tweeted that the Supreme Court announced Ginsburg has no remaining signs of cancer and will need no additional treatment.

The justices of the US Supreme Court gather for a formal group portrait to include the new Associate Justice, top row, far right, at the Supreme Court Building in Washington, Friday, Nov. 30, 2018.

But should she not return for the February 19 public sessions, there will likely be renewed concern for the liberal justice's future.

Many liberal activists and social media users are desperately hoping Ginsburg can outlast President Donald Trump's administration and wait until a Democrat enters the White House again before she retires. "According to the thoracic surgeon Valerie W. Rusch, MD, FACS, both nodules removed during surgery were found to be malignant on initial pathology evaluation". Furthermore, Trump's nomination would potentially allow for another conservative to join the court, sparking another uproar from liberals similar to Justice Brett Kavanaugh's nomination. In 2013, she told the New York Times, "As long as I can do the job full steam, and that, at my age, is not predictable". Doctors who have performed the type of surgery Ginsburg underwent said they are confident that she will recover and return to the High Court by February.

This is RBG's third bout with cancer after receiving treatment for colon cancer in 2000 and pancreatic cancer 10 years later. If Ginsburg steps down as one of the four liberal justices now serving, President Trump will nearly certainly appoint a conservative replacement, tilting the court further to the Right.

"The White House is urging outside allies to be prepared for another bruising confirmation battle should Ginsberg's health take a sudden turn for the worse, according to four sources with knowledge of the overtures", Politico reports.
