  • The super blood moon is not as scary as it looks

"And we could not simulate the lunar environment, such as microgravity and cosmic radiation, on Earth", said Xie Gengxin, senior scientist at the Chongqing University and chief designer of the mini biosphere experiment.

"This is a success, but Chang E-3 was designed according to the temperature figure", Zhang Hei, executive director of the Chang E-4 Exploration Project from the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), told Xinhua.

China says it has grown the first plants on the Moon as part of its historic mission to the far side.

While making announcement over the same on Tuesday, January 15, Chinese researchers released images from a probe that showed a tiny plant growing in a small pot inside the spacecraft located hundreds of thousands of kilometres away from our planet.

Professor Liu Hanlong, head of the experiment, stated in the seed sprout announcement, "We have given consideration to future survival in space". This will take place in the enclosed canister and will not affect the lunar environment, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) stated.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations shared its glee on Twitter, saying, "China's moon mission success means that astronauts could potentially harvest their own food in space!" The greatest challenge according to Chinese scientists is the constant weather changes on the moon.

Earlier this month, China became the first country in the world to successfully land a lunar probe, Chang'e-4, on the far side of the Moon.

China has sprouted a cotton seed on the moon - and hopes to be growing potatoes on the dark side of Earth's neighbor within the next 100 days, it's been revealed. Tests on Earth show that viable, self-sustaining biospheres are exceptionally hard to build and maintain. Rather, they could harvest and grow their food on the moon. A little bit of sunlight is refracted by the Earth's atmosphere and reaches the Moon, bending around the edges of the Earth. An experiment to grow plants on the moon is also being carried out.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is in full support of China's space explorations as he repeatedly said that he has lofty ambitions to make China a space power.
