Now we indeed have an official release date of July 4th (Independence Day), 2019.

To celebrate the new year, Netflix released the first teaser trailer for Stranger Things 3 at midnight on December 31. They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did a year ago. This summer, we learned the new season was scheduled for a summer 2019 release. Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max (Sadie Sink) are at the scene too.

All of the show's teenage cast are expected to return for the third series, as are the likes of Winona Ryder and David Harbour, while Maya Hawke will be introduced as a new character.

Stranger Things season 3 launches on Netflix on 4 July, 2019.

The timing must have intentional because the trailer takes place on New Years Eve in 1984, with a ball drop in NY and a creepy broadcast. (What that might mean, we have no idea.) The apple slowly drops, but the footage tilts, turns, and wobbles before cutting to more green text that promises the summer of 1985 will be one to remember.

Fans who were quick on the PAUSE button noted that certain words in the code were highlighted, and the message read, "When blue and yellow meet in the west".

The teaser showed a clip of a New Year's Eve celebration hosted by Dick Clark, which seemed innocuous enough, though various parts of the transmission were interrupted by weird screens of information.
