Philadelphia 76ers sign Tobias Harris from LA Clippers in six-player deal

He is averaging 20.7 points and 7.9 rebounds, and joins a Sixers squad that already features the likes of center Joel Embiid, small forward Jimmy Butler and point guard Ben Simmons.

The centerpiece is Clippers forward Tobias Harris, who scored 34 points for the clippers Tuesday night, and averages 21 points a game.

With the trade, the 76ers are now looking to be front runners for the Eastern division.

The Pistons and Bucks are reportedly "finalising" the trade ahead of Thursday's (Friday AEDT) deadline.

Harris, 26, is having a breakout season with the Clippers and is now averaging 20.7 points per game while shooting 42 percent from 3-point range.

The Clippers will also send fan favorite big man Boban Marjanovic and reserve forward Mike Scott to the loaded Sixers.

Whether they keep the picks, or try to parlay them into a blockbuster trade of their own, the Clippers are nicely stocked for the future - one which they hope includes some big-name free agents, as they'll have plenty of cap space in the summer, especially now that they don't have to worry about re-signing Harris. In return, the Clippers are receiving Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala and four picks.

The team can see a path to the National Basketball Association championship this season and are willing to give up potential star Shandry and their draft picks.

Sixers general manager Elton Brand traded for Butler, a four-time All-Star, earlier this season, and showed again he is not afraid to make a bold move for the win-now franchise. As part of the deal, the Clippers will also receive a protected 2020 first-round pick from the Sixers, a 2021 unprotected first-round pick via Miami, second-round picks in 2021 and 2023.

After a loss to Toronto, Philadelphia (34-20) now sits at fifth in the Eastern Conference.
