Facebook says outage is 'not related to a DDoS attack'

Apps for Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp were down for some users around the world for several hours Wednesday, with unidentified technical problems causing widespread disruptions.
"We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps", a Facebook spokesperson told PJ Media in a statement.
"We know this is frustrating, and our team is hard at work to resolve this ASAP", wrote Instagram. They directed followers to Facebook's official statement - also delivered via Twitter - which described the issues as "required maintenance". Some users can, in fact, open the apps but many are complaining that they are unable to post anything, or even like other people's posts.
Service continues to be disrupted on Facebook's main app, Messsenger, Instagram and Whatsapp. Due to the outage advertisers are losing money and it seems that the company is planning to issue refunds to the advertisers.
It is showing outages in the United States, Europe, Japan, Manila, Australia and New Zealand.
The world has been freaking out today after not one, but two of the biggest social media platforms have been down for some users. On Twitter, for example, people flooded the platform with jokes about Facebook's problems.
Facebook was not immediately available for comment, so it was unclear whether the problems with Ads Manager were related to the mass outages affecting the rest of the social network.
According to the website downdetector.com, Facebook was having issues since 11.56am EDT.
The outage, looking at Downdetector.com - is worldwide but hitting the US and Europe fairly hard.
