"We inquired about Antonio Brown on Tuesday, and kept talks open with the Steelers", Bills general manager Brandon Beane said in a statement Friday.

The reactions to the news that the Bills were even contemplating the trade were mixed. After NFL Network tweeted that "The Steelers are closing in on a deal to send star WR Antonio Brown to the Buffalo Bills", Brown tweeted, "Fake news". "We had positive discussions, but ultimately it didn't make sense for either side". Brown referred to the Bills talk as "Fake news".

Antonio Brown posted on Instagram appearing to indicate that he is a member of the Raiders, and Mike Florio has confirmed that the wide receiver is indeed heading to the Silver and Black.

Brown, who has wanted out of Pittsburgh since the beginning of the offseason, has been linked to several different National Football League franchises, though the Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals and Washington Redskins, among others, were mentioned the most. With $76 million in salary-cap space, per Overthecap.com, Buffalo has plenty of money to play with in free agency, but Brown is the best offensive player available outside of soon-to-be free agent Le'Veon Bell.

Whether or not any of those teams continue to pursue Brown, and whether he accepts a trade to any of those clubs, remains to be seen.

The 30-year-old Brown had 1,297 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns last season.

It's unknown how the Raiders will approach the situation at this point, but Brown's potential unwillingness to report to Buffalo could impact trade offers. Whichever team lands Brown likely will have to depart with a first-round draft pick.
